The Bulk WebP Converter is a batch image conversion tool specifically for producing WebP output from standard image formats. WebP is a modern image format developed by Google that achieves significantly smaller file sizes than JPEG and PNG at comparable quality levels. For web developers and content managers, switching to WebP can reduce page image payload by 25 to 40 percent, improving page load speed and Core Web Vitals scores.

The converter uses the browser Canvas API to decode each source image and re-encode it in WebP format at the specified quality level. This runs entirely in the browser — no images are transmitted to any server. Batch processing allows hundreds of images to be converted in a single session without manual repetition.

Quality level selection is a key decision in WebP conversion. A quality setting of 75 to 85 produces excellent results for photographic images — the visual difference from the source is imperceptible to most viewers, but the file size reduction is dramatic. For graphics with flat colours, text, or sharp edges, a higher quality setting of 90 to 95 preserves the crispness of the content.

PNG images with alpha channel transparency convert to WebP with the transparency preserved. For opaque images, lossy mode is used with the configured quality setting.

Animated GIF files are also supported. Animated GIFs are notoriously large — a short looping animation can be several megabytes as a GIF. The same animation converted to animated WebP is typically 50 to 70 percent smaller. The frame timing and loop settings are preserved in the conversion.
